For Mental Health Professionals
Mental health professionals play an essential role in supporting individuals, couples, and families through life's most significant challenges. I value collaborative professional relationships that respect each clinician's expertise, maintain appropriate boundaries, and promote continuity of care when it serves the client's best interests.
In addition to counseling, I offer divorce coaching and divorce & family mediation as distinct professional services. Because each service serves a different purpose, I carefully maintain the ethical and professional boundaries that distinguish therapy, coaching, and mediation.
While my background as a Licensed Professional Counselor informs my work as a divorce coach, coaching is a distinct, goal-oriented, future-focused service that helps clients navigate the practical, relational, and decision-making aspects of divorce. Assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions remain within the scope of counseling and are provided only when I am serving as a therapist.
When it serves the client’s best interests, collaboration may include:
Coordinating care with a client's informed consent.
Communicating with treating mental health professionals, when appropriate and authorized, to support continuity of care.
Referring divorce coaching or mediation clients for clinical services when mental health assessment or treatment is indicated.
Referring therapy clients when another clinician is a better fit.
Supporting clients who are working with an existing mental health provider while receiving divorce coaching or mediation.
Helping clients identify the service—or combination of services—that best meets their needs.
Each client deserves the service that best fits their needs at a particular point in time. My commitment is to remain grounded in the purpose and scope of the role I am serving while collaborating thoughtfully with other professionals whenever doing so benefits the client.
When appropriate, I also encourage clients to establish care with or to remain connected with a treating mental health professional. My priority is helping each client receive the service—or combination of services—that best support their needs while respecting the purpose and boundaries of each professional role.
